Hi Diem, I saw you on The Duel and luckily heard your aftershow interview where you mention your website. As someone who has also developed a health community website idea from my own personal experience (read my story), I was very impressed with your ideas and how you were able to implement it so well. What you've started is so critical and the potential is huge. I will put a link on my website to yours.
I am hoping you can start a topic for Environmental Illness. This includes illnesses like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Electrical Sensitivity, Mold-related Illness, and others. These are all considered "invisible illnesses" because the person who is suffering many times looks quite well and healthy. Often, those in the medical profession, family and friends think that the person is "making it up" or mentally ill. Unfortunately, this is because it is human nature to want to see/experience something for oneself before it is believable. The result is that there are millions of people worldwide suffering greatly on a daily basis and not receiving social, financial or medical support.
When people receive diagnoses of cancer or other illnesses where public support is strong, they usually receive an outpouring of support from their inner circle and society in general. This is not so with Environmental Illness. Not only are sufferers faced with debilitating symptoms and an uncertain future, but they often find themselves isolated and the object of others' anger and disbelief because the illness itself puts into question a lot of lifestyle choices of modern society.
I personally consider cancer another Environmental Illness, as many cancers today are caused by the increase of environmental toxins in our air, water and food supply.
I will be sharing this resource with my members, many of which are in need of financial support and for whom your website will be a critical resource.
